The skills I’ve acquired for many years at the Louvres Museum and the Orsay Museum have allowed me to reproduce beautiful copies from several ages. They are painted only by me, respecting the art’s rules and the original art’s works.

I stretch the canvas and prepare my support according to the painting for picture I have to copy. Copie de tableaux, technique

Techniques are different according to each area (century):
  • A flamand picture involves a huge virtuosity and a strong technical knowledge.
  • An impressionist picture requires vigour, excellence and respect for the way of painting to illustrate a spontaneous work.

The support, the preparation and the technique are very important and they have a real impact on the final work.

Techniques used for copies are ones which were used a long time ago.

  1. The first coat, named the printing coat, gives the structure to the picture. It separates the painting and the lights, and the shade zones.
  2. The second coat allows working the composition of the painting.
  3. The final coat allows the reproduction of details and the application of glacis, giving subtlety to the painting.
The drying time is really important so that colours don’t mix themselves. However, the technique is not sufficient enough. The artistic sensitivity is essential in order to give life to the picture for it to be more alive than a simple beautiful photograph.

Paintings’ copies require a lot of time, patience, precision, dexterity, rigor and sensitiveness.

Moreover, the technique is different according to the period of reproduction of the original painting and according to the techniques used by the painter copied.

Copies’ techniques involve a deep adaptation to the original. .

Being a copyist in a museum require a knowledge and skills including very good drawing skills, good colours perception, deep knowledge about materials used, and a real passion for the art’s history.

All the paintings on this website are paintings which have been displayed in the Louvres Museum and Orsay Museum, except my personal paintings, which have been painted in my studio.
